Empowering Men. Healing Families. Transforming Communities.

The Men of Color Who Rescue Male Coalition supports African American boys and men through mentorship, counseling, and leadership — helping them grow into strong fathers, mates, and citizens.

Who Are the Men of Color Who Rescue?

The MOCWR Male Coalition is a collaboration of over 100 professional and community-based organizations working together to empower men and male youth. We support fathers, teens, and adult men through programs grounded in our Values for Life model — promoting healing, self-worth, and community connection. Male Coalition Members staff attempt to help clients deal with daily challenges that they must face—for example, job readiness, sexual responsibility, substance abuse, parenting, adult authority, family maintenance. In addition to individual meetings with clients, there is a

weekly group session for teenage boys & girls.

Male Coalition staff collaborates with approx. 70 African American male

and female human service workers from agencies across Allegheny County, Pennsylvania’s Washington County, and Ohio’s Mahoning County. They meet once a month to share information train, discuss common concerns, provide Racial Equity Training mentoring with mutual support.

The STAND Approach by the Male Coalition

The MOCWR Male Coalition goal is to mentor, train, and assist boys and men become all they can be as fathers, as mates, as productive and contributing citizens locally and globally. We plan to accomplish this goal by promoting the seven Values for Life Competencies: Love and Respect, Interpersonal Skills, Learning Orientation, Self Esteem, Self Confidence, Self Reliance, Self Persistence. The seven competencies will be promoted through STAND: Serving, Training, Advocating, Networking, and Developing. To the extent that we are successful in helping boys and men STAND as fathers, mates, and citizens we anticipate that we will promote economic sufficiency, enhance family integrity, promote the quality of communal life, and reduce the incidence of community violence child abuse and neglect.
